Bellydancer of the Universe (R) Competition XXXV Star:

Anjelica Scannura!

Anjelica Scannura is a highly accomplished dancer, choreographer, adjudicator, and actress, known for her exceptional work across various dance styles primarily in Flamenco, Bellydance, and her fusion performances. Anjelica has performed and taught worldwide, including in Europe, the US, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.

Anjelica's career is particularly distinguished as the two-time winner of Bellydancer of the Universe, having won the prestigious Triple Crown title in 2013 and overall champion in 2022. These accomplishments, along with her Hall of Fame induction in 2014, solidify her as one of the top dancers in the international Bellydance community. She is now pleased to be a part of the judging panel with Bellydancer of the Universe.

Anjelica has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Canadian Opera Company. She's also worked with notable musicians such as Thomas Dolby and Corb Lund, and was hand-picked by Jean Paul Gaultier to perform at Toronto Fashion Week. She has performed for Russel Crowe, Sting and the Princess of Jaipur. She choreographed TSN'S 2018 World Cup Commercial, and for the 2015 Pan Am Games. She has enjoyed a residency at the Movenpick Petra, and also performed at the historical Odeon Theater in Jordan.

She has danced in numerous film and TV shows, most notably on The CW's Reign, USA Network's Falling Water, Disney's Camp Rock, and PBS's Frankie Drake Mysteries.

She currently teaches at the National Ballet of Canada and Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre.

Designed for all levels, this session will break down the two most common 9/8 formats�Karshlama and Romani�helping you confidently count, feel, and dance these vibrant patterns. Through guided technique and two short, take-home choreographies, you'll embody the rhythm with style and precision.

You'll leave not only with new moves, but also detailed notes and music to continue your practice and deepen your understanding.

FAN-TASY Fan Workshop w/ DeVilla

Feather fans and fans of all kinds add glamour, mystery, and a bit of flirtatious fun to your dance performances.

In this workshop we will cover:
History
Technique
Formations
Concealing and Revealing

You will learn the tips, tricks, and combinations to help you create your own FAN-Tastic number or perform the choreography I have prepared for you.   Always with an air of class and a little sass.

There will be loaner fans to try and to use.

Dukhan - Drum Solo

Get ready to ignite the stage with Dukhan�Anjelica�s high-energy drum solo choreography, composed exclusively for her by Milad Daher. After years of performing together in the cabarets, their collaboration comes to life in this fiery, precision-packed piece. In this workshop at Bellydancer of the Universe, you�ll learn choreography, sharp technique, and dynamic stage presence. Best of all? You�ll have the opportunity to perform it live on stage with Anjelica! Don�t miss this rare chance to train, connect, and shine in an unforgettable performance experience!

Join Anjelica & Bellydancer of the Universe for Dukhan�a fierce, high-energy drum solo composed by Milad Daher. Learn the full piece and take to the stage to perform it LIVE with Anjelica in the BDUC 35 finale August 24 evening show between five and 7:30 PM.

Come to the workshop "Camera Ready"!   Your competition performance spot will be toward the end of the program to allow you enough time to refresh yourself, so come "camera ready".   Stay in your costume after your competition performance, and please wear a cover-up between your performances and acceptance of any awards!

If you participate, this allows you to be our Guest for the day *and* perform in the finale of BDUC 35, *LIVE* On Stage with Anjelica, recreating the Drum Solo you learned, before the crowning of the Bellydancer of the Universe (R), XXXV!

Saturday Workshop Location Information and Map, of Thymele Arts:

Thymele Artis is located at 5481 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90029.

The building says Thymele Arts. There is a paid public underground parking garage located at 1110 N. Western Ave - $8 Cash or Venmo. Once you park, you can walk around the corner to the Santa Monica entrance, Thymele Arts is on the 2nd floor. There is elevator access.

There is some street parking in the area, but it can be tricky.
